Creating content that stands out isn’t hard.
You don’t need to be the most creative person.
You don’t need to force yourself to be unique.
And you don’t need to waste your time trying to create viral pieces of content to stand out and to establish a deep connection with your audience.
Because in reality, most creators are trapped in a Samsaric cycle of creating content that you’ve heard 1000s of times that you are bored of seeing.
At the same time, you don’t feel a deep human connection with their brand which makes everything they do seem and feel shallow and superficial.
They are leaving potential for profound impact, life-long fans, and even ENJOYMENT on the table.
And because of this, creating content that stands out and having an influential personal brand is that goddamn easy—for whoever does the opposite that is.
And how do you do the opposite?
Well for starters, all you need is you :)
Authenticity + Unique Perspectives = YOU-NIQUENESS Let’s start with first things first.
The easiest way to create content that stands out is to develop your own unique perspectives.
Behind every great idea is a unique perspective. It is a combination of your individual insights, takes, or experiences you have with a certain topic or idea—which makes up the piece of content you’re sharing.
I put “unique” in quotes because the idea itself is probably not unique in itself, but the perspective is. Which makes it different.
And since these have the intention of provoking thought and inspiring new perspectives, duhhh—you stand out. That’s when your audience will be like “oh shit, I never thought of it like this before!”
I’ll be painting a picture for you with a unique perspective on perfectionism I wrote a few days ago:
This is what I mean of developing a unique perspective — this is all the amalgamation of my personal insights, experiences, and other things together. And if the perspective is great, the content is great as well.
And since knowing how to develop unique perspectives is a natural process, you don’t need to force yourself to be unique. Because when you know the skill of coming up with your own perspectives, you are already unique. That is the profound power of unique perspectives.
Now if you want to establish a profound brand presence and connection with your audience that escapes superficiality? You need to practice the philosophy of authenticity.
Anddd probably made you just yawn when I mentioned authenticity , but I’m not here to give you a castrated definition of what it is.
Authenticity isn’t only done for others.
It is done for yourself.
It is about listening to yourself, following yourself, and being yourself—despite judgement, criticism, and BS you’ll get.
And when you freely express that onto to your brand, whether it’s through your personality, your content, or your mission, you stand out—just for affirming your true and undeniable self.
What makes this much more profound is the root word for authentic is ‘authentica’ in Latin, meaning ‘original.’ So in essence, if you are embracing your own authenticity, you are embracing your own originality.
And you can probably see how sharing unique perspectives and practicing authenticity goes hand-to-hand right. Because they are two interconnected ideas that both help you become more human and become undeniably unique, just like who you really are.
That’s what I call YOU-NIQUENESS: you are unique to your audience through just being and expressing yourself.
And to develop this you-niqueness? This is what we’ll be doing in this newsletter :)
Expect to learn: developing unique perspectives to inspire and captivate your audience Expect to learn: understanding the philosophy of authenticity to stand out as a personal-brand. This is how you outshine the shallowness of other creators on social-media.
This is how you attract the audience of your dreams, just by being you and sharing your thoughts.
And for that, I hope this will be of staggering and breathtaking value to you :)
01 Developing unique perspectives to creating authentic content The key to naturally develop your own unique perspectives is through:
an understanding of yourself having broad and holistic knowledge knowing how to think multi-dimensionally learning how to connect different ideas together Which I’ll cover in each step. So expect new insights, perspectives and ideas to flood in. And expect this to be a lil deep ;)
I’ll also give some examples of unique perspectives implemented in some Tweets (X-posts) to give a gist of writing and implementing them.
1 - Knowing yourself This section is about understanding:
your values your strengths your passions your stories Through introspection and reflection, you will easily come up with your own perspectives on different ideas. Which can be used in your content.
It will be less “practical” but without a fundamental understanding of the self, it is all for naught.
For that, less get into it :)
a - owning your values —
People don’t remember you only by what you do. they remember you by what you value. Knowing your values is a way to develop your own perspectives and implementing in your content and brand. And will help to inspire and educate your audience to abide those same values as well.
So these are some question I’d ask myself when figuring out my values:
what idea or piece of advice do you resonate with the most? what philosophy or wisdom do you want to practice everyday? what values have you learned from experiences or lessons? what are you obsessed about and gives you life? For me, my values are:
living a creative life through branding, writing, and design philosophical living & multi-dimensional thinking authenticity and transparency having multiple passions freedom & autonomy innovation These are my codes of conducts that help me towards realizing my own individuality, and helps navigate me towards creating unique perspectives and content.
b - owning your talents —
Your own talents are your own qualities of uniqueness that you can use to develop perspectives that nobody else can create, but you. And by leveraging them, makes you associated and remembered for them.
So these are some questions to ask yourself for understanding your own talents:
what personality trait sets you apart from other people? what activity, task, or idea makes you obsessed? what comes naturally to me? For example, my talents are:
creativity design divergent thinking philosophical & multidimensional-thinking speaking & communication open-mindedness rebelliousness perfectionism Yes even my perfectionism hahaheh - so you can include weaknesses.
Like the previous step, these will guide you to come up with your own unique perspectives.
c - owning your passions —
They literally can be anything that you’re interested in and can help you come up with new perspectives or connect new ideas together in content (i’ll talk about later).
So if you have interests like philosophy, spirituality, art, fitness, keep them in mind you can use them to come up with new perspectives
d - owning your experiences —
Going through and recollecting experiences will help you collect new insights and different perspectives.
Some prompts you can ask yourself to draw out new perspectives from your past:
What lessons and ideas have you learned from some past experiences? (childhood, failures, stories, etc). Have you found yourself changing your mind about different things, ideas, and advice? Where did you learn a particular piece of advice or idea from? You can also come up with many content ideas and even stories to tell that you want to tell your audience through reflecting on your past.
That is the path of you-niqueness.
2 - Discovering Unique Perspectives Through Multi-dimensional Thinking Think different - Steve Jobs This is perhaps the most important step here.
When it comes to anything like an idea or topic, there are no clear or obvious answer to what’s “right or wrong”— like we were taught and subjugated to think.
Most of our capacity for critical thinking has been castrated and reduced to something one-dimensional. Were not asking questions, we’re avoiding being challenged with our beliefs, or we’re just grasping straws on dogma and fragile ideals. If I’d state there was an “NPC epidemic,” this would be it.
But in reality, the point of having YOUR perspective is to accept that there is no right or wrong, just a different perspective. And that is where you can practice how to think multi-dimensionally.
And through that multi-dimensional thinking, you can extract:
contrarian perspectives unconventional perspectives unique and novel perspectives You don’t only create better content, you become more sophisticated, you become more empathetic, and you become more different. Thus the affirmation of your individuality.
So how do you actually do this for creating content?
To start off:
choose your own favorite ideas you resonate with look at the most popular advice you see on social media search up common-ideas or trends Or they can be ideas or big problems in your market, niche, or interest that you want to create content on.
Now to take those ideas and to discover unique perspectives to them, answer any of these prompts:
is there any paradoxes or contradictions I can find to this idea? can I engage with people that have different perspectives? have I researched any nuances behind the idea? do I have any experience and lessons with it? is there more than 1 answer? This what exploring an idea in multi-dimensionally is. You are asking yourself questions and opening yourself to explore different perspectives that will challenge your thinking. But will help you create compelling perspectives.
To give you a quick example, let me give you a popular saying: “be disciplined and don’t listen to how you feel.”
I agree with it especially for ‘beginners’ but it makes the notion of discipline misunderstood. Discipline is an instinct (an emotion) like procrastination and non-action. The only difference is it’s a higher instinct compared to them. When you can practice and integrate it, discipline becomes a reflex that you don’t even need to think about.
The goal isn’t to become disciplined, the goal is to become discipline itself.
See what I mean? I could be wrong here but I discovered a nuanced, unconventional perspective through digging and searching for multiple dimensions within discipline.
People will disagree with people, people will not even understand me, and that is okay for me and you.
The more unique the perspective, the more unique the content.
This is the way of the you-nique.
3 - Learning to connect different ideas together The true heart of creating really unique and creative perspectives is to connect seemingly different ideas together. This is the essence of “intersectional thinking.”
By connecting different ideas, you will give your perspectives more depth and uniqueness to them. Which beats the CRAPP outta the shallow and generic pieces of content and advice you see mostly see out there.
For example, for the topic of standing out as a personal brand i’m writing about in this article, I’m connecting different ideas of:
being unique through being you practicing authenticity to compel your audience and stand out learning to think multi-dimensionally to stand out By connecting more ideas, you can tackle more angles of the idea you are creating — thus you are creating some undeniably different and un-replicable by the common person.
4 - Exploring Diverse Knowledge I’ve come to noticed that the more I exposed myself to different types of knowledge and interests, the more my capacity to create unique perspectives increased. Because duhh… you’re INCREASING your perspectives.
And it is probably the reason why I’m able to articulate, write, and share content that seem “unconventional.”
It’s because I’m exposing myself to my curiosities and interests other than my main passion of writing, branding, and business.
For example, I frequently explore books and content on:
Spirituality Art & design Depth Psychology History and culture Philosophy Which makes me come up with many unique perspectives for most ideas I come across.
Plus it helps me articulate and explain ideas in a unique way because I have exposure to different domains of knowledge — so I can connect different ideas together and make it more unique to me.
And anybody can the same thing! If you are an avid generalist learner that has multiple-interests, you can easily intersect these ideas to what you want to talk about.
And if you’re not? Expose yourself to as many educational topics as you can. Whether it’s philosophy, spirituality, culture, whatever.
This will help you create better content, sure… but will make you much more well-rounded, sophisticated, and multi-dimensional as an individual :P
The more ideas you expose yourself to, the more expanded your perspectives become, thus the better content you create.
Examples I’ll give some quick examples of older (since I had to take a break) and recent short-form X-posts, but i’ll give you some examples so you can get the gist:
1 - on introspection: (my values & using philosophical perspective)
2 - on suffering: (my values & using philosophical perspective)
3 - on perfectionism (my talents)
4 - on thinking (using my values & unconventional perspective)
5 - on setting trends (my values & unconventional perspective)
6 - on pursuing passions (my values)
7 - on writing being painting (connecting ideas together)
8 - on being the different (my values, talents & diverging perspective)
See what i meaan??
This is all the result of me using my own unique perspectives. You can tell that I’m:
using and expressing my interests & values doubling-down on my strengths sharing unconventional and unique perspectives connecting ideas together A seemingly unique piece of content, insight, or thought isn’t hard at all.
Once you can write from your own perspective and your own heart, it all comes naturally when you write, speak, and express — this is the way of you-niqueness.
Implementing your unique perspectives Now it is a matter of time until you START implementing this in your content.
You’ll get even better results through writing long-form content (video, blogs, newsletter, etc) just because you have the room to flesh out and articulate your ideas better. You can also grab my free newsletter writing notion template here to help you write long-forms if you need it :)
But you can always do short-form posts as well with them like I did here.
02 Developing Unwavering Authenticity You and me know why authenticity will help us become unique.
But what prevents most people from being truly authentic with themselves and other people is the:
fear of judgement fear of being different lack of experimentation lack of boundaries When you look at this, it’s crystal-clear to why being authentic makes you rare and unique as a creator. It admittedly takes a good amount courage, self-awareness, and experimentation to cultivate this high-level amount of authenticity (i even struggle with this still lol).
So since you’ve already covered the self-awareness part already through understanding on your own unique perspectives, you’ll be onto the practical aspects to it.
Now let’s break the shackles that prevent you from embracing your true authenticity.
You are a FILTER I’m bouta destroy your fear of being judged and not resonating with people.
The point isn’t to attract every person to your brand, but to attract that specific person that resonates with YOU, your content, and your message.
Because that specific person can:
be your fan be your customer be your long-term supporter and advocate That means it’s okay to have people not like you at ALL. Because they weren’t meant for YOU, your brand, and your business eco-system to begin with.
I’m not saying to cut yourself off from 99% of the population, don’t try to attract a broader audience, or force yourself to be unconventional. But I’m saying you don’t need to feel the pressure of EVERYONE to like you.
Remember what I said before? Authenticity isn’t only done for others, it is done for yourself. Boom.
Now to the practical!
With the intention of inspiring and being authentic to your audience, you’re free to establish a deeper relationship with your audience through:
sharing your random and authentic thoughts sharing updates, stories, or experiences sharing projects or behind-the-scenes work opening up with your vulnerable side opening up with your quirks and personality traits All through content or anything that you share onto your brand.
Even if you might be judged.
Even if you might look stupid.
Even if you might be “wrong.”
Tick all these boxes? G o o d , because you are being unapologetically and undeniably yourself.
You are not afraid to be honest, expressive and assertive of your true self—and that makes you different.
If people like your brand, they will stay. If people don’t like your brand, they can leave. Accept that trying to resonate with everyone is going to lead you to a place called “nowhere.”
This is the way of the you-nique.
Develop your own unique style What makes creators seem different in what they do is because of their own unique style that they personally experimented and develop as a personal brand.
Look at the podcast “anything goes” by Emma Chamberlain, she’s literally on her couch with glasses on with a shitty microphone talking about whatever the fuck she wants in the most chill way possible. No SHIT she has 200k ratings on Spotify doing this.
Just because:
it is authentic it is unique it is ballsy And this isn’t only about standing out but about experimenting with what works best FOR YOU. Not about doing what MOST PEOPLE are doing and doing the most “right” or “optimal” thing.
So test out and develop your own style, whether it’s:
keeping your YT videos raw asf, un-edited, and lowkey you preferring to use video or visuals on X, opposed to regular posts using your favorite vocabulary or words while you write and speak your own authentic brand vibe, typography, and messaging You can go endless with this in your content and create your own amalgamation of your own unique and authentic style!
And if it resonates with you and you are getting decent results, keep iterating and double-down on it.
If you think what you are doing is “wrong” to other people, this gives you more an justification to fucking do it.
Have boundaries You cannot be authentic to anybody, nor yourself if you don’t possess any form of boundaries that help you navigate the creator economy.
Now what do I mean by boundaries?
I mean the boundaries that tell you:
i don’t resonate with this i don’t feel comfortable with this i don’t need to share this i don’t want to do this Whether this in the personal-branding/content world or LIFE in general.
This is your own ANTI-BS barrier that allows you to:
abide by your values and principles follow your own visions and aspirations secures your own agency and privacy From any external BS that tries to impede these well important aspects in your life.
The bigger the boundaries, the more room you can be authentic to yourself and everyone else.
Be YOU-NIQUE, be DIFFERENT Remember, being unique as a creator isn’t hard because in essence, you are a unique individual. You are a profound and complex individual full of different values, perspectives, and experiences, it is undeniable that you are different .
And to affirm and express your you-niqueness as a creator and a person unto this world is your great birth-right.
