Writing about how to develop your voice was always on my bucket-list because of the goddamn lack of concrete and practical advice there is onto how to actually discover this voice.
Which is absolutely insane because:
Your voice is the way you influence Your voice is the way you are remembered Your voice is the way you enter people’s hearts Your voice is the way you make being a creator enjoyable! It’s a great expression of not just who you are as a writer or brand, but who you literally are as an individual.
But without actually noticing this voice within us, we instead tend to emulate and copy other people’s voices.
Before we know it, we sound like everyone else or perhaps your favorite influencer in your niche. And that’s a mega-yikes for anyone that wants to actually become a penetratingly impactful creator or personal-brand.
So that’s what were doing here, expect to learn:
How to discover your voice How to create your own writing style How to stop giving a fuck about what others think of your voice It is finally time to unlock that voice of yours and express it’s dazzle onto your brand :)
Realizing the voice within I’m going to destroy the most common misconception that creators have about “the voice.”
You don’t find your unique writing or speaking voice, because you already have it within you. It isn’t some thing that you find and catch, it is something that you already have—you just have to realize and discover it.
Through:
your own personality your own style & vibe your own inspirations & experimentation your own consistency & time This is why you won’t discover this voice through only “writing how you talk,” like most creators preach.
It’s good advice for beginner writers or creators, but if you strictly abide by it through the entirety of your creator journey, you won’t be able to develop your voice to it’s fullest potential.
Because what if your speaking is holding back your writing?
What if you want to change how you speak?
What if you don’t want to write as how you speak?
You see how skewed this advice it?
It just simply doesn’t work for everyone and especially for the person that truly wants to unravel their full actuality of their unique voice.
For that, there needs to be a different way.
Developing the voice through intuition Instead of following such generic “one-size-fits-all advice” that doesn’t for everyone, let’s switch something up shall we?
Let’s replace the advice “write how you speak” with “write however the fuck you want:”
however that feels natural to you however that matches who you are however that reflects your values You can call this writing intuitively because you are writing with what resonates with you instead of trying to write how you currently speak—or how most influencers write.
It liberates you from your constraints and allows you to play around and experiment with what works for YOU. And when you give yourself enough time and consistency, your voice will be developed further.
This will also allow your brand to stand out as a byproduct because your audience will instantly notice that YOU are talking—instead of someone else talking.
Whether that’s in:
your content your copy your sales pages your videos and podcasts (your speaking) And that’s the beauty and marvel to all of this: being unique just from being you.
And yes, your writing might not sound like how you speak in real life… but is this “less authentic” if you’re not writing as how you speak? Not necessarily!
Your writing is your primary means to actually develop your speaking in the first place, especially if you haven’t developed your speaking at all. So eventually your speaking will become congruent to your writing because you are developing your natural and authentic voice. Remember, your voice doesn’t necessarily mean ONLY your writing, but the way you articulate and speak in real life.
So this very argument of you sounding “less authentic” because you aren’t “writing how you speak” goes down the goddamn drain—boom.
This is the way.
Creating your own style (writing & communication) For adding more spice:
A great way to further develop your voice is to experiment and create your own style or vibe for your voice, which makes up the:
the emotions you invoke in your writing the type of vocabulary & language you write with This will help you further:
differentiate your voice make your voice “one-of-a-kind” make it personal and enjoyable for you to communicate This makes your audience feel that you are a brand that is different and more human.
Plus you are giving off an emotion and a vibe that is uniquely yours. And no wonder why many big “personality” brands resonate with so many people.
So with that, let’s get into creating our own style :)
Understanding the vibe of your voice (invoking an emotion) If you understand your personality and you have looked “inward” into yourself, knowing the vibe of your voice won’t be hard.
So what kind of vibe do you want to invoke with your voice?:
a practical, straight-to-the-point, and concise vibe? a philosophical, deep, and contemplative vibe? a calming, caring, compassionate vibe? a comedic, humorous, and witty vibe? a bold, courageous, assertive vibe? a ENERGETIC, spirited, lively vibe? a Encouraging, supporting vibe? a Rebellious asf vibe? For me, I personally err on #2, #5, #6, #7 & #8 — which is my personal vibe because of my overall personality and what I prefer in general :P
So no, you don’t need to only choose one, you can choose multiple and combine them into your own unique vibe of your voice.
And with this unique vibe you’re creating for yourself, you will open yourself up to discovering your own unique:
vocabulary language words Which will help add to the vibe that you creating for your brand—making your voice hit deep to audience and making you remembered for it.
So if you want to figure out what special words and vocabulary you want to use in your brand, I recommend creating a “Word Cloud.”
Whether it’s a page in Docs, Notion, Obsidian, or wherever is convenient like this:
This is how I do it:
With this will add more to the vibe of your voice and make you stand out in your copy.
I don’t do this all the time but I’m personally looking forward to doing this more right now because I want to experiment with my own style.
And if you set an intention of wanting to find your favorite words or adjectives, they will come intuitively through time, consistency, and experimentation.
Thus it’s an intentional but natural process.
This is how you become sharp and stinging with your voice.
Seeking for inspiration to develop your voice Inspiration, inspiration, inspiration!
It’s obvious that you need it for crafting and weaving your own voice, especially if you are stuck with where to go with it.
So whether it is:
your favorite writers your favorite creators literature, philosophy, or fiction You name it—seek for any inspiration and implement aspects from them that you resonate with into your writing style.
And if you don’t have any, let your curiosities run free and expose yourself to them.
This will truly help make your vibe one-of-a-kind.
Escaping judgement and criticism The biggest impediment to creators that prevent them from finding their own voice is due to fear.
Fear of judgement. Fear of criticism. Fear of breaking the “rules”.
“Oh you’re supposed to sound like this because that’s what writers and most copywriters sound!”
“Oh you’re supposed to be like this because the algorithm and your audience will reward you for it”
You see how dumb and futile this is?
And for that, this is why why most people can’t unlock their own voice within.
This is why they can’t realize the enjoyment, the delight, and pleasure there is to express this voice.
Have I convinced you enough that you shouldn’t c a r e about how people would look at you for the way you express yourself yett? I hear a yes!
If so, fuck:
abiding by the “rules” not attracting and resonating with everyone what other people think, feel, or see your voice how different and radical you can be And if you tick all these boxes? Haha good, because you are being unapologetically and undeniably yourself.
You are bold in your expressiveness, assertiveness, and honesty—and that makes you different.
And if people judge you, they are indirectly judging themselves (lol).
Rid yourself of your own chains and constraints and you will be able to unleash this electric voice within you.
This is the way.
Give great consistency, experimentation, and time You already know the drill: do your goddamn reps because there is no short-cut to this.
This is the only way you can develop and solidify your voice.
Because at first, your voice might seem kinda like meh, and you might be like “this should be better.” That’s completely fine and normal because you are still trying to intuitively find what WORKS for you.
So give it rigorous consistency, experimentation, and time.
This is the way for slowly cultivating a potent and charging voice.
The path of YOU-NIQUENESS For you to discover and develop this unique voice makes writing and branding much more enjoyable and exhilarating.
It’s also a prime way that you can stand out as a personal-brand and become a true influence to your audience—just by BEING YOURSELF. Isn’t that moving ?
Thus the new paradigm of creatives and personal-brands is reserved for the you-nique.

Update: gaining momentum again This is a lengthy read so I’d skip if I were you haha.
For 4 staggering months, my productivity and rigor has dwindled more than 80%, while I haven’t been like myself at all.
It was like I had a “cosmic pause” (lack of a better words) that forced me to realize my own humility and lack of maturity.
Not going into detail here but almost every single day I was hedonistic, cognitively-drained, and lethargic to the brim.
I wanted to work on the things I loved and enjoyed but hardly couldn’t at all.
It’s funny because I wrote a newsletter on “How to overcome bad seasons,” acting like it was all “over,” but it kept continuing for another 2 and half months. How hilarious!
But I’m super-duper-duper grateful for it at the same time because I’ve gained many profound and life-changing realizations about myself during this time—especially these recent 3 weeks. A miniature spiritual-awakening of sorts.
And for that, recently I’m feeling very close to normal and I’m starting to see the light again. Things are starting to fall into place naturally and I’m able to kick off on my business where I left off 4 months ago.
My momentum is utterly fucked up but I will revive it slow and steady—mining this cave-wall piece by piece.
Yes not much lesson or tRansFormAtion behind this crappy story but just wanted to share my thoughts and let myself continue to charge forward towards the ends of the earth.
I’m so excited to revive my momentum, build my brand, and offer my services to people.
Thank you for being there on this ride with me :)
